“Veronica doesn’t think she’s going crazy. But why can’t anyone else see the mysterious blond boy who keeps popping up wherever she goes? When her best friend, Mackenna, invites her to spend the summer in Scotland, Veronica jumps at the opportunity to leave her complicated life behind for a few months.

But the Scottish countryside holds other plans.

Not only has the imaginary kilted boy followed her to Alloway, she and Mackenna uncover a strange set of rings and a very unnerving letter from Mackenna’s great aunt—and when the girls test the instructions Aunt Gracie left behind, they find themselves transported to a land that defies explanation. Doon seems like a real-life fairy tale, complete with one prince who has eyes for Mackenna and another who looks suspiciously like the boy from Veronica’s daydreams. But Doon has a dark underbelly as well. The two girls could have everything they’ve longed for…or they could end up breaking an enchantment and find themselves trapped in a world that has become a nightmare.” –Goodreads

My Review:

This story was fantastic. I was left begging for more. The story made me tear up at moments and want to scream at moments and also got me extremely ecstatic at others. I could not put this book down whenever I picked it up. I thought the story went exactly how it needed to go. I was sad about a few aspects of the ending but the other stories should resolve that matter…I hope. There were a few plot twists, some I should have seen coming. The twists and turns made the story  compelling because I didn’t know what was around the corner sometimes. It gave suspense to the book but not too much that I was completely caught off guard at the outcome. Most things in the book were pretty predictable. It was a little cliche but I am the type of person to like a cliche story at times unless it’s like horrible. I read a lot of reviews that made me not want to read the book but I got past those because I like to form my own opinions. I did really enjoy the book and thought it was a very cute story.

Jaime and Duncan McCrae are the dreamiest guys in the world at the moment. I think Jaime was a huge jerk but fo good reasoning. He was also very attractive by Veronica’s description of the Scotsman. I also thought Duncan was a dream boat. He was very playful and had an amazing sense of humor. I was glad he was more upfront about his feelings than Jaime but I understood why Jaime felt that way and it gave a better storyline. The brothers were very fun and beautiful. I think I have new favorite fictional crushes. Appreciate hot guys in kilts.

Veronica and Mackenna are the best of friends and the truest definition of friendship goals. Veronica was a very well thought out character and so was Mackenna. I think, for me at least, Veronica was more relatable because she likes to escape into other worlds through books and she is very optimistic and instantly believes in Doon when she hears about it. Mackenna was more down to earth and she knew what was real and what isn’t. Yes, Doon was real but she didn’t know that till they got there so she was doubtful at first. I do think she should have just let her friend try and find Doon and not hide stuff away from her. I mean if you believed it wasn’t real why not let her find out for herself.

As this book came to a close I was angry because I didn’t want it to be over but excited because I knew there was going to be more. I cannot wait to obtain the other stories and read them. I really hope you enjoy this review.
