My Review:

Disappointment is all I can really feel for this book. I think I go myself to hyped up for this story. I think I do that with all classics. I always think these type of books will be so good and exciting but then I read them and I’m just bored. I think people back in the day were too boring for my taste.

The plot of the story was actually a good plot but the way it was played out was boring. It never really got anywhere until the last 80 pages and the last 80 pages went by too fast. There was no real excitement. I don’t necessarily think it was a terrible book I just would have preferred more climatic scenes. Climatic scenes usually ended abruptly and scenes that were boring were drawn out.

Classical stories usually have some type of theme or message but I did not really see the themes or the importance of the themes laid out by SparkNotes. The hollowness of the wealthy and the decline of the American dream do not seem important to me. I guess that back in the day maybe it was an issue but I know nothing about the 20’s so… Anyways I think a classic should be timeless and the theme should connect to the present.

Gatsby and Daisy have an interesting love story. I feel bad for Gatsby because although Daisy may have loved him she seemed to have loved a high status and money more. Poor Gatsby pined over her for five years, probably never even looked at a woman, but by the end of the story you could tell she hardly cared.

After writing this I think I liked the book just a little bit more than I thought. I still am not gonna give it a good rating but it wasn’t completely terrible. I was just disappointed. Thank you for reading!
